When I finally joined Facebook, I got all LinkedIn and Twittery about it. Although I never feel like visiting my own pages on either LinkedIn or Twitter.

These days I resist embracing new ways to electronically communicate. I'm just waiting for some pint-sized hologram to pop out of my toilet tank and chirp Hi! Would you like to join Biffybook? You can dish with friends while exfoliating or Q-Tipping your ears or, you know, whatever you do in here!

But Facebook sucked me in, with all of its inviting little features and crack-like word games. Facebook gilds procrastination with a sense of being purposefully social. It's great for birthday reminders, photo and video sharing, and reconnecting with or staying updated on far-flung pals. Then you start checking it every hour -- scanning the home page, tweaking your profile, checking your inbox -- then every half-hour, then every minute you'd rather not be doing something that needs to be done. It's like moving into a huge shiny new house, then looking around a month later and realizing that you're spending all your free time cleaning it.

With 140 million active users, Facebook sure could use a phalanx of strict editors. But seeing as it's a democracy, it has all types of abusers. Here are a few of the most common:

The Oversharers : The question that tops everybody's home page -- What are you doing right now? -- should have a content filter that blocks tedium. All too many messages remind me of my sixth-grade diary: No boys called me. Washed hair. One side didn't turn out very good though and Sat in the beanbag and painted toenails while watching 'Orca the Killer Whale' on TV. This doesn't mean you shouldn't post on Facebook unless you just scaled Kilimanjaro, discovered a new chemical element or had a Daniel Craig sighting. Just resist the urge to purge every ... inconsequential ... detail that crosses your mind.

The Exhibitionists : More titillating, but not by much. Hey, you two, you do know that every installment of your bodice-ripping wall-to-wall flirtation is splattered across both of your Friend-iverses. Right?

The Photo Frenemies : Yeah, YOU look really cute in that picture. And I'm channeling W.C. Fields in a parka. So don't go blithely posting it all over the place, or I'll really give you something to tag.

The Plunderers : As of this writing, I have 145 Friends. In keeping with Facebook culture, I barely know many of them, and others I've never met. Do I really want 200 Friends? Oh, probably. That seems about the minimum required to feel socially well-traveled. But 400? 800? The limit is 5,000. No one-headed human can keep up with even one-tenth that many people, yet Facebook is rife with mad mug-shot amassers who won't stop until they've topped the four-digit Friend level. They're the Web equivalent of Old West hunters standing proudly over piles of overkill buffalo, which they then promptly leave to rot on the prairie.

The Climbers : Everybody has at least one of these -- the guy you barely know who asks to be your Friend, then trolls the rest of your stash for phrases like bestselling author or President-elect of the United States and pounces. I would like to ask Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak -- who pops up in my People You May Know box almost as often as Botox ads -- to be my social-website pal, but I don't really want to bother him. He has stuff to do. I might tempt Hizzoner into a game of Word Twist when he could be increasing arts funding or the snowplow budget. But if clawing your way to fame on the mug shots of others is your M.O., here's a tip: You'll have better luck if you post a profile shot of your svelte self in a bikini (or just go ahead and photoshop your head onto Heidi Klum's body). You just might suddenly become Friends with several bold-face names who happen to be straight males, as one local woman did.

Some smart people I know who have thus far resisted the magnetic death eddy of Facebook have it right. It is a lot like high school for grownups, with all the cliquing and time-frittering.

I can only hope Facebook's hold on me will one day be eroded into oblivion by my own strip-mining. In the meantime, I have to go change my profile pic.

[ Life ] The Wall Street Journal reports that up to 74,000 of former and current Coca-Cola employees personal information could be compromised due to a recent Atlanta headquarter theft.

An employee, who was promptly fired, was assigned to dispose of the laptops but instead attempted to steal them late last year. The laptops were once assigned to human resources staff, and held social security numbers, credit card numbers, drivers license numbers and other personal information.

Although Coca-Cola was notified of the information on the laptops on the tenth of December last year, it only began to inform employees on Friday. Coca-Cola explained the wait on needing to investigate the content on the laptop, and if any of the information was misused. Coca-Cola released in a statement that the company brought in extra crews that worked long hours, including throughout the holiday period and on weekends, to sort through the data in order to give precise information to the employees as well as the public in their official statement.

Coca-Cola has concluded that no information has been used for malicious purposes, and that they notified employees affected within the legal time period.

The breach affects not only Atlanta Coca-Cola employees, but all North American employees of the largest beverage company in the world. The company sold its first bottle of Coke in Atlanta on May 8, 1886, and has played a major part in the citys economy since.

No arrests have been made in regards to the attempted theft, along with no explanation as to why the laptops were discarded before the information on them were not encrypted. Much information is being withheld at the time due to the ongoing law enforcement investigation. Go Daddy, historically the Super Bowl's raciest advertiser, on Friday will name supermodel Bar Refaeli as its newest Super Bowl-bound Go Daddy girl.

She was ranked No. 1 on Maxim's Hot 100 for 2012. The move comes just weeks after Mercedes-Benz announced that supermodel Kate Upton will star in its game spot.

Both models are former Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue cover girls.

But neither of the hotter-than-hot models will appear in racy attire. In fact, both will appear in formal dresses - as plans are right now. Even as Super Bowl marketers are reaching out to the world's most beautiful models, some appear to be evolving away from ultra-racy imagery.

"It's about intrigue and desire," says Noreen Jenny Laffey, president of Celebrity Endorsement Network, which links celebrities with marketers. "It's not what you see; it's what you don't see - but you know is there."

For Go Daddy, it's also an attempt to soften its image. "The new sexy at Go Daddy is all about the customer," says Barb Rechterman, chief marketing officer.

This will be Refaeli's first Super Bowl spot. The Israeli native, who has dated actor Leonardo DiCaprio on and off, will star with veteran race car driver Danica Patrick in the 30-second ad.

Refaeli, 27, who was the cover model for the 2009 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, says she has no hesitation about linking up with an advertiser whose brand image has been built and tarnished by its often-racy Super Bowl commercials.

"I am a model who is well known for her body and feminine image," she says. "I'm not here to make people think I'm the next Einstein."

The ad, to be filmed next week in Los Angeles, also features Patrick, who will star in her record 11th and 12th Super Bowl spots for Go Daddy.

Go Daddy won't reveal detailed contents of the spot, called "The Perfect Match." But the two will likely discuss why helping customers is the new meaning of sexy at Go Daddy.

While Refaeli's outfit in the commercial is still undecided, it will be a cocktail dress or something very formal, says Rechterman. "We're not thinking bikinis or anything like that," she says. "You might say we've come up in the world."

Mercedes-Benz is featuring Upton, 20, in its commercial to appeal to a younger customer with its new, lower-price Mercedes-Benz CLA, says Stephen Cannon, CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA.

But in keeping with Mercedes' brand image, Upton, who was the cover model on the 2012 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, will be wearing a cocktail dress, says Cannon. "We don't have her on the hood of a car in a bikini."

The Working Girl star has been going back and forth to Oahu since last month shooting three episodes of Hawaii Five-0 , which is a remake of the 1968-80 series. CBS announced Griffith's addition to the show in August, adding that the star will be playing the mother of Detective Sergeant Danny Williams (played by Scott Caan ).
